Summer Internship Opportunities

Since its founding in 1999, CTH has presented a repertory of works ranging from traditional classical playwrights (Anton Chekhov, Euripides, and William Shakespeare), to established 20th century playwrights (August Wilson, Langston Hughes, and Jean Genet), to new plays by emerging playwrights which we believe will stand the test of time. The intern(s) hired for this position should expect to be involved in all aspects of theater management.

A CTH intern will be assigned a department (please see below). All applicants should enjoy working with a great team of administrators and artists who care deeply about producing quality work. Expect to learn; the ins and outs of theater management, how to produce an excellent outdoor theater production, and how to utilize community resources within the arts. In return the intern should bring essential skills to this position: excellent communication, attention to detail, the ability to work independently on important projects, and a strong interest in the arts–specifically theater.

 

Positions:

General Management Intern – Supports the Managing Director and Producing Associate administratively with: office management, supporting meetings, filing etc. Supports company management with the counting in/out the concessions till at every show, works in tandem with House Manager. Manages recruitment and nightly orientation of volunteers and their deployment. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, can work on their own and interested in a career in theatre administration

Development Intern – In charge of collecting all monies received from donations both electronic and cash. Assist with mailings, including solicitation and acknowledgment letters Also collecting information from audience members on both hard and electronic copy. Data entry and maintenance of CTH database following existing style guide. Attend fundraising and cultivation events as needed. Responsible for the successful marketing of sponsor/vendor products as well as daily finance reporting and other duties as assigned by the Development Associate. The ideal candidate is looking to pursue a career in Development and Arts Administration.

Social Media/Marketing Intern – Works closely with the staff on projects related to social media engagement. This intern will be responsible for; conducting marketing research aiding in audience development, assisting with routine metrics reporting to CTH staff, assist with coordination of Public Relations efforts and other duties as assigned by CTH’s Marketing Consultant. The ideal candidate is interested in marketing or public relations. Demonstrated experience with social media brand management a plus, but not required.

Production Assistant(s) – Serves as a point of contact for the Artistic Director, CTH staff, stage manager, stage crew, artists, front of house staff, etc. Production Assistants report to the Producing Associate and Stage Manager for various assignments and support the rehearsal and pre-production process including, but not limited to; setting props, running lines with actors, assisting crew backstage. PA’s qualify for Equity Membership Candidacy under CTH’s LOA with AEA.

Wardrobe Intern – Applicant must have sewing skills both on machine and by hand, good communication skills, a good attitude, and a willingness to learn. Shopping, swatching, and returns a plus.

 

General Responsibilities:

  • Field customer phone calls, usher, distribute programs, etc
  • Perform background research
  • Assist with various promotional tasks
  • Cultivate relationships with community members and business owners
  • Perform online marketing and promotion
  • Assist with documentation and analysis of program/exhibit/shows

 

Requirements:

Excellent computer skills are a must, with experience working on the Web and in social media. Excellent research, written and oral communication skills, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are important. Needs to be able to work independently with minimal supervision. A strong interest in entering a position in the arts is vital.
