ADULT NOEL – FEMALE, to play late 30’s, African-American. Present-day, adult version of Young Noel. Professional photojournalist. Smart and charismatic, headstrong, but warm. Struggles with letting go of the past. Needs an actor with a mezzo soprano/alto singing voice. PRINCIPAL

YOUNG NOEL – FEMALE (CHILD), to play 8 years old, African-American. Child version of Adult Noel (in 1985). Joyful and inquisitive, slightly rebellious, independent, has an active imagination. Needs a strong child actor with a great singing voice. PRINCIPAL

DELORIS – FEMALE, to play late 30’s/early 40’s, African-American. Mother to Noel (in 1985), married to Henry. Lost their first child 8 years earlier and never recovered, strong and guarded, hard shell covering a softer inside. Needs a sharp, emotionally versatile actor with a thrilling, contemporary, high belt singing voice.
PRINCIPAL

SKEETER – MALE, to play late 30’s/early 40’s, African-American. Handyman and neighborhood errand-runner, wiry, feels like a harmless street hustler, has good intentions, lives with Lou. Needs a very strong actor with a good singing voice (tenor or baritone). PRINCIPAL

PASTOR BENNIE RAINDROP – MALE, to play late 30’s/early 40’s, African-American. Popular televangelist and Gospel performer. Needs a strong, charismatic actor who is very familiar with the culture of Gospel music. Must have a thrilling, dynamic, soulful, Gospel singing voice. Must move well. FEATURED ENSEMBLE

CHURCH SOLOIST – FEMALE, to play 20’s-40’s, African-American. Must have a thrilling, dynamic, soulful, Gospel singing voice. Must move well. FEATURED ENSEMBLE

ENSEMBLE – MALE/FEMALE, to play 20’s-30’s, any ethnicity. Must have a great singing voice, any vocal range. Must move very well. ENSEMBLE
