AT HARLEM SCHOOL OF THE ARTS

In this dynamic evening of new theatrical voices, The Classical Theatre of Harlem presents a single reading from its Future Classics Literary Series at Harlem School of the Arts: WAITING FOR GUAGUANCO An adaptation of an Irish Play with Boricua Flavor by Nelson Diaz-Marcano
Synopsis: Two women wait for a concert that may or may not happen while feeling that they will only settle once and for all if Puerto Ricans could just start over and live on the moon. Is this an adaptation, or is it a metaphor for the everyday lives of those relocating to this land for better opportunities despite finding none?

ICONS 3: PROMINENT FIGURES ACROSS THE LANDSCAPE
The Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH), American Theatre Magazine and Venus Radio Theater are teaming up for ICONS 3: Prominent Figures in the Landscape, a series of audio plays produced by CTH and Venus Radio Theater highlighting four leaders and tastemakers whose work was central to the vibrant Harlem Renaissance. For the collection of plays, CTH commissioned Harlem-based playwrights to create monologues performed by Harlem-based actors, honoring the largely unsung voices of fascinating figures who were integral to the cultural movement.
As a special offering in our Offscript feed, we offer this monologue by Gethsemane Herron, performed by Candace Boahene, about Harlem Renaissance writer, artist, and journalist Gwendolyn Bennett.
